Sunday Sermon: Justification by Imputed Righteousness

Another amazing sermon! This week on Romans 4:1-8. Here are some key points I picked up:

*Justification has always been and can only be, by faith apart from works.
*To have Justification by works, fuels the sin of boasting, v. 2
*100% of us are unrighteous apart from Christ
*In God's law court you are compared with Christ, not another human who's "worse" than you
*God is not in the business of glorifying men--quote by John Macarthur
*The quoting of scripture in verses is put into the present tense--proving it's living!
*our sin was imputed to Christ as He bore our sin on the cross; then Christ's righteousness is imputed to our account when we are saved and we are legally declared righteous
*Faith is not the basis for our righteousness--it's the empty bucket we bring to the well--God has to give us the faith--quote by Calvin
*You come to God with your sin and have nothing to give; He changes everything about you, and then you can live a righteous life
*Below is a Faith acrostic by Macarthur:
F-Facts-knowing God exists, sent Christ, we are wicked sinners, Christ died and paid our penalty and we need His righteousness
A-you must agree with those previous facts
I-internalize-you must personalize those facts
T-you must turn from your sin and trust and serve God alone
H-hope-persistent hope-a settled certainty that we persevere to the end
*Grace excludes works!
*Works have nothing to do with justification!
*Christians stumble "on board", not "over board"

Those are the highlights! It was a very convicting sermon! I can't wait till next week for the next part of Romans! I've learned so much in the past 4 months and we're only in chapter 4! What are you learning in your church?
